Two of the largest producers of Spanish Ciders have started using the Telos Blockchain to prove the origin of the apples used to produce their product. Users can verify the origin using the SidraDOP app and a QR code on the bottles.
The companies in question are Sidra Menéndez S.L. and Llagar Castañón S.L which, having to follow the Spanish regulations for Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for cider, have relied on Telos blockchain.
The implementation was carried out with the help of Teloscope, one of the Telos Block Producers. Both companies have already started to register their bottles by tracking every step of production on Telos.
"Spain’s cider industry has faced challenges as some producers import apples from outside the region to make imitation ciders. We decided to leverage the Telos blockchain to come up with a solution that would ensure the integrity of Spanish cider, helping it to gain consumer confidence and global market share. When consumers trust where their goods are coming from, they are willing to pay more for that quality."
All data recorded on the Telos blockchain will be accessible to customers through the SidraDOP app, which will display the history of each bottle, including the types of apples used and when it was delivered.
